Nothing big this week, but a couple small things:
Bennett
Three weeks ago we talked about the world's smallest typewriter and how I own one of those now. I got it a new ribbon and it started typing a lot better, which isn't a big surprise:
Now that I can see it properly, the typeface on here is a little bit interesting, a couple letters are modified from the standard typeface you usually see on 10 CPI machines. The capital Q and Z are particularly distinctive:
I still haven't gotten around to typing up a whole letter on it but it's something I want to do.
Car
I got a new 2-channel dash cam for the MX-5. I figured I'd hardwire it this time (especially since I picked up a new bumper scrape recently that happened when the car was parked), which was more frustrating than I hoped and reminded me that a previous owner left a giant bundle of goofy-ass wiring right next to the cabin fusebox:
Kinda hard to tell but there's eight different T-taps, two relays, and at least one inline fuse in all this and it goes off to a connector that's not plugged into anything; I guess there used to be a tracker or alarm there or something. I should probably get around to pulling that out but removing T-taps properly is a bit annoying since you have to repair the wire insulation afterwards.
I also got a nail in my left rear tire that was causing a slow leak and the tire shop near me took care of it this morning. Annoying, but ultimately caused me little expense and it was nice to learn that while this car doesn't have TPMS, I'm used to its handling dynamics enough to just Notice when I've got a low tire. Low pressure on the left rear causes a slight pull to the right on acceleration because of the uneven contact patch.
Virtual reality
A couple weeks ago I ordered a kit for DIY body trackers and it showed up on Monday. Much 3D printing and soldering later and now I can move my arms and legs and have it actually work right.
I assume I'm the only person on the planet who has typewritten labels on their VR trackers. Getting that set up properly was pretty tedious but it forced me to work out a number of kinks in my setup, so overall it's a win.
I also was lucky enough to get one of the first Steam Frame orders in this morning, so that's going to be a huge upgrade from my used Quest 2 when it shows up.
